Encouraging News From the Fireline

Garfield Community Church board chairman David Allinger reports both the Garfield and Mountain Home church buildings can still be seen through the smoky haze, boldly standing for the cause of Christ. Allinger returned to his home in Garfield today (just outside Estacada) to retrieve some supplies, and has recently made visits to Elwood and Dodge. At Elwood, Allinger confirms the Lord has preserved both the old church building and the historic school building just across the road. Sadly, we reported yesterday that the Dodge Community Church building - between Estacada and Elwood - was devoured by flames, as were some other buildings in the area. The community is in shock, but has not lost hope. Dodge Community Church Faceboook group administrator Renee Smith posted strong encouragement to her community yesterday: “GOD REIGNS! The Church is not a building. Remember our Strength and Salvation comes from HIM alone.” That kind of determination reminds me of Jesus’ words to Peter: “Upon this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it!” (Matthew 16) George Community Church and Dover Community Church remain in the mandatory evacuation zones…but there does not appear to be any active fire activity in their immediate areas. The Carver Church is in a Level 2 evacuation area and is conducting a community prayer gathering at 7:30 tomorrow morning.

The flames are still burning and your prayers are still needed, as will your assistance as we work together to help these communities recover on the months ahead.
